What you can expect

  • Central Deborah Gold Mine operated during the gold rush boom, yielding 929kg of gold. That would be worth over $191 million today!

Descend to the dark depths of Bendigo on Australia's deepest underground mine tour. Don a hard hat, switch on your headlamp, and descend 61 metres underground.

Be guided through the honeycomb of tunnels, walk in the footsteps of past gold miners, experience the eerie stillness of complete darkness, see gold in its natural state, and hear vintage mining equipment roar into action.

Afterwards, explore the surface of the mine. Dominated by a huge 22-meter-high poppet head, the surface of the mine is a highlight in itself. Step inside heritage-listed buildings that were essential to the mine’s operation, including the old Blacksmith's Shop, the First Aid Room, Carbide Lamp Room, and the impressive Engine Room. You can even try your luck panning for gold!
