What you can expect

Walking through Chía is entering sacred ground, where every street, hill, and stream holds the living memory of the Muisca civilisation. In this land, where the ancients looked to the moon to mark time, seek guidance, and honour the goddess Chía—who gave the city its name—the past and present are woven into a journey through myth, culture, and territory.

Our tour begins with the Muisca worldview, a deep-rooted system of knowledge that connected celestial cycles, natural elements, and human life. Through oral tradition and enduring symbols in architecture and art, you’ll discover stories like that of Bachué, the ancestral mother from Lake Iguaque, and learn about lunar rituals that once guided both agriculture and spirituality.

We’ll explore the historic centre of Chía, where traces of colonisation still coexist with Indigenous memory. Colonial churches, plazas once sacred, and ancestral pathways now turned streets speak of centuries of transformation. Local art and cultural expressions reinterpret this past, offering spaces where stories are retold and meanings reclaimed.

Iconic sites such as the Church of Santa Lucía, the Puente del Común, and La Valvanera Hill serve as symbolic connections between sky and earth. Along the way, you’ll meet local residents—guardians of memory—who will share legends, traditions, and ways of life still shaped by the rhythms of the ancestral savannah.

We’ll also immerse ourselves in Chía’s natural landscape: the Bogotá River, once revered as a living spirit; wetlands and sacred hills that maintain the region’s ecological and spiritual balance; and native plants used for healing, nourishment, and guidance. This is not just scenery—it is sacred territory, alive with meaning.

Gastronomy becomes a bridge between past and present. You’ll taste regional flavours shaped by corn, potatoes, native herbs, and local traditions, rooted in both Indigenous knowledge and colonial fusion. We’ll also reflect on celebrations tied to the moon, traditional markets, and festive dates that turn daily life into ritual.

The journey ends at Andrés Carne de Res, Chía’s most iconic cultural space. More than a restaurant, it’s a living theatre of Colombian identity—full of symbols, music, stories, and creativity. There, you’ll enjoy a guided walk through its vibrant spaces, each telling its own storey. (Food and drinks not included.)

This is not just a tour—it’s a chance to see the land with new eyes, to feel the pulse of ancestral time, and to recognise in Chía a mirror of memory, landscape, and identity that continues to speak.
