Begin your adventure at Cemoro Sewu or Cemoro Kandang, both well-established basecamps with clear trails and good facilities. Start your trek through lush montane forests filled with pine trees and mountain vegetation, gradually opening into expansive savanna fields as you gain elevation.

Compared to steeper volcanoes like Mount Sumbing, Mount Lawu offers a more gradual ascent, making it suitable for beginners with good fitness as well as seasoned trekkers looking for a scenic overnight hike.

Set up camp at one of the designated camping spots along the trail. Areas around Pos 3 or near Hargo Dalem are popular choices, offering relatively flat ground and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. As night falls, temperatures drop significantly, but the clear skies often reveal a spectacular canopy of stars, creating a calm and memorable mountain atmosphere.

Wake up early for the final ascent to Hargo Dumilah, the highest point, where you’ll be greeted with breathtaking views above the clouds. From the summit, see distant peaks such as Mount Merapi and Mount Merbabu, along with rolling hills and valleys stretching across Java.

Along the trail, encounter historic sites such as the revered Hargo Dalem and the legendary Warung Mbok Yem—the highest food stall in Java—where warm meals and drinks are available near the summit. These elements add a unique cultural dimension to the trekking experience.
