Day 1 – From Chefchaouen to Azilane (Talassemtane National Park)
Your adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel in Chefchaouen, where you’ll meet your experienced local mountain guide. After a brief introduction and orientation, you’ll set off on foot into the majestic Rif Mountains.
As you enter Talassemtane National Park, the landscape unfolds into a mix of pine and cedar forests, dramatic rock formations, and the rich colours of Mediterranean flora and fauna. The trail winds through peaceful mountain paths, offering sweeping views of the valleys and ridges surrounding Chefchaouen.
Along the way, your guide will share stories about local traditions, the park’s ecology, and life in the Rif region. You’ll likely encounter shepherds, small hamlets, and perhaps wildlife such as Barbary macaques or mountain birds typical of the park.
By late afternoon, you’ll arrive at the charming Berber village of Azilane, a tranquil mountain settlement. Here, you’ll settle into a traditional rural guesthouse (gîte) where hospitality and simplicity meet. Enjoy a homemade Moroccan dinner, often featuring tagine prepared with local ingredients. Spend the evening relaxing and soaking in the authentic atmosphere of mountain life.
Day 2 – From Azilane to Akchour
After breakfast at the guesthouse, continue your trek deeper into the Rif Mountains towards Akchour, one of the most beautiful natural areas in northern Morocco. The route descends through valleys and lush greenery, with breathtaking views of limestone cliffs and crystal streams.
During the day, you’ll stop for a picnic lunch in nature, surrounded by the tranquil sounds of the forest and river nearby. The highlight of the journey is reaching the iconic “God’s Bridge” (Pont de Dieu) a magnificent natural rock arch carved by centuries of water and wind erosion. It’s a perfect spot for photos and to appreciate the raw power of nature.
After exploring the area and enjoying some free time to relax by the river or take in the scenery, your trek concludes in Akchour. From here, a private taxi transfer will take you comfortably back to Chefchaouen, where your two-day mountain adventure comes to an end.
