What you can expect

  • Panna Tiger Reserve is one of India’s most successful tiger conservation stories. Once facing a sharp decline in tiger population, the park has made a remarkable comeback and is now home to a healthy number of Bengal tigers.

Spread across lush teak forests, grasslands, and river ecosystems along the beautiful Ken River, Panna offers a diverse habitat for:

    Bengal Tigers
    Leopards
    Chital & Sambar Deer
    Indian Wolf
    Mugger Crocodile
    Over 200 species of birds

The reserve is part of the Vindhya mountain ranges, making the landscape dramatic and scenic.
    Distance from Khajuraho
Khajuraho is located approximately 25–30 km from the Madla Gate (main entry gate) of Panna Tiger Reserve.

Travel Time: 30–40 minutes by car
Road Condition: Smooth and comfortable drive
Pickup: Available from hotel, airport, or railway station
Most safari packages include door-to-door pickup and drop-off, making it very convenient for travellers.

    Safari Timings
    Safari is conducted twice daily:
    Morning Safari
Starts: Around 5:30 AM (seasonal variation)
    Duration: 3–4 hours
Best for: Higher chances of tiger sightings

    Afternoon Safari
    Starts: Around 2:30 PM

    Duration: 3–4 hours
Best for: Scenic photography & relaxed wildlife viewing
(Timings change slightly depending on season.)
What to Expect During the Jeep Safari

The safari is conducted in an open 4x4 Gypsy vehicle with:
    ✔ Professional Driver
    ✔ Government-certified Naturalist Guide
    ✔ Pre-booked Safari Permit

As you enter the forest, expect dusty tracks, sudden deer alarms, peacock calls, and possibly the thrilling moment when a tiger crosses your path.
    Besides tigers, you may spot:
    Sloth bears climbing trees
Crocodiles basking along the Ken River
    Herds of spotted deer grazing
    Langurs giving alarm calls
Every safari is unique — nature decides what you see!

    Best Time to Visit
October to March: Pleasant weather, excellent birdwatching
April to June: Higher tiger sighting probability due to dry conditions
The park usually remains closed during the monsoon season (July to September).

Safari Zones in Panna National Park
The reserve has core and buffer zones. The Madla Zone is the most popular entry point from Khajuraho and offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities.
Advance booking is strongly recommended, especially during peak tourist season.
