What you can expect

Discover the heart of Basque Country with a guided walking tour of the capital, Vitoria-Gasteiz, and its surrounding areas. An expert guide leads you through the history, architecture, and biodiversity of the culturally rich region, including lunch in the medieval village of Balmaseda.

Get picked up from your hotel in Bilbao and drive out towards Vitoria-Gasteiz, the capital of Basque Country. A friendly guide takes you on a walking tour of the city's most emblematic landmarks, including new Cathedral of Mary Immaculate with its High Gothic architecture, the 14th-century Church of St. Michael the Archangel, and the Basque Parliament headquarters. Your guide introduces you to the history and significance of each stop.

After your city walkthrough, head out to Salinas de AƱana, a town renowned for its ancient salt flats that were formed in the Triassic Period. Learn about the history, archaeology, and the biodiversity of the flats, including the over 5,000 salt pans that have been built in the area since Roman times. Later, take lunch in the medieval village of Balmaseda before travelling to Santurtzi and Portugalete on the coast. Your tour concludes with a trip across the UNESCO-listed Bizkaya Bridge, which crosses the Nervion River and was built in 1893, before you head back to Bilbao.
