Three experience spaces – one journey through time
Your experience at the Leezodrom combines three narrative spaces into a continuous, immersive journey through the past, present, and future of Münster.
The experience begins with an evocative film that transports you to the here and now. It showcases key locations, themes, and perspectives of the city of Münster: urban society, architecture, mobility, and urban life. You will get a feel for the city's identity and for the issues that affect it today.
Afterwards, you will immerse yourself in an exhibition that takes you through five selected eras of the city's history. Here, you will encounter fictional characters who exemplify their respective eras. You will learn about the realities of their lives, discover their challenges, hopes and perspectives – and later encounter them again on the virtual tour.
Finally, the highlight is the VR bike tour: an immersive journey through the history of Münster, accompanied by individual voices from five different eras. Starting from the Leezodrom on Syndikatplatz, you will ride through digitally reconstructed streets, immerse yourself in historical atmospheres, and experience the city as intensely as if you were actually there.
Five eras – five perspectives
1895 – Old Münster
You'll ride through imperial Germany–era Münster at the end of the 19th century. At your side is a janitor proudly cycling through the city on his new penny-farthing bike. The bicycle represents technological progress, social status, and new opportunities – and you will experience a city in transition between tradition and modernity.
1925 – A city on the rise
In the Roaring Twenties, you move through a city brimming with a spirit of optimism and new beginnings. You are accompanied by an independent young woman who uses her bicycle as a symbol of emancipation. You experience the Weimar Republic from a new, self-assured perspective – a period shaped by freedom, change, and social upheaval of the time.
1945 – A city in ruins
After World War II, large parts of Münster lie in ruins. A survivor will guide you through post-war Münster, sharing stories of loss, hope, and new beginnings. During this period, the bicycle became an indispensable means of survival – practical, quiet, and usable anywhere.
1968 – A city for cars?
You will experience Münster during a time of upheaval. A young man on his Bonanza bike navigates through traffic chaos, increasing car traffic, and new social conflicts. The question hangs in the air: Who does the city belong to – cars or people?
2045 – A look into the future
At the end of the tour, you'll take a look ahead. What could Münster look like in 2045? What visions of mobility, urban design, and urban life could become reality? The future is open – and you are invited to help shape it.
