Begin your journey with a visit to Prison Island, located just half an hour from Stone Town. Famous for its giant tortoises, which have been residing there since 1919 after being brought from Aldabra in Seychelles, the island is also a perfect spot for snorkelling and sunbathing. Once a quarantine station, it later became the site where the British planned to build a prison in the 1890s, although the prison was never actually used.
