We'll start at our agency or pick you up at your accommodation to begin our adventure exploring the geological richness of the area. The first village we'll pass through is Curarrehue, which means “Stone Altar” in Mapudungun and has been sculpted by the force of glaciers and erosion.
We'll continue the tour to Puesco, which means “Water of the North.” Here, we'll have a privileged view of the Las Peinetas rock formation, or Sierra Millallifen, a natural monument formed by the collision of tectonic plates. We'll arrive at Villarrica National Park and Quillelhue Lagoon.
During the excursion, we'll visit the beautiful Quillelhue, Escondida, and Huinfuica lagoons at the foot of Lanín Volcano, the highest in the Araucanía region at 3,747 metres above sea level, surrounded by native forest, flowers, and ancient araucaria trees, in a setting of tranquility and pure nature. These lakes of glacial origin are known for their crystal-clear waters and their direct connection to the Andes mountain range.
The tour combines easy 4-kilometer hikes, stops to admire the views, and time to enjoy the surroundings, take photos, and learn about the natural and cultural history of the area. At Huinfuica Lagoon, we'll stop to eat, relax, swim, and admire the flora and fauna. The entire tour is accompanied by local guides, who will share information about the geography, flora, fauna, and importance of Lanín Volcano to the Mapuche people and the region.
On the way back, we'll stop in the village of Curarrehue to wrap up our activity with a refreshing natural juice on the bank of the Trankura River and visit local artisans at the “Walung” market, which means “Summer Season.” We'll also learn a little more about the businesses, culture, and people.
At the end, we'll return to the agency or drop you off at your accommodation.
