What you can expect

  • Start your tour with a visit to Ahu Vinapu to admire the Ahu Tahira wall, which is very similar to the Inca walls. See a red scoria moai that could represent a two-headed woman.

Continue the tour and head to the Rano Kau volcano, which has the largest and most beautiful crater on the island. Take in the breathtaking views and the sea that surrounds the inhabitants, making you feel as if you were at the centre of the world.

To learn about the last stage of the island's history before the arrival of the Catholic missionaries, head to the Ceremonial Village of Orongo. Learn in detail about the Birdman or Tangata Manu competition, which lasted more than two centuries and ended around 1864.

Learn about this activity, which consisted of going to the islet of Motu Nui in search of the egg of the Manutara bird to be proclaimed king or leader of the island. Back in the village, enjoy a beautiful, colourful sunset while sitting in front of Ahu Tahai or anywhere near the sea.
