We will meet you at the meeting point early in the morning and then start the drive to the town of Mixquic which is around 1.5 hours away from Mexico City. Once there, you will witness the Day of the Dead celebration that takes place in the town every year. Mixquic locals enjoy this important event as they set out beautiful carpets of sawdust, cempasuchil (marigold) flowers, pre-Hispanic dances, and colourful altars in order to honour the deceased. This is one of the most important celebrations in Mexico because families gather to visit the cemetery and decorate the tombs of their deceased family with offerings of fruit, water, salt, a typical bread called “pan de muerto” (bread of the dead), and candles.

Along with your guide you'll walk through the town of Mixquic, one of Mexico City's designated Barrios Magicos (magical areas), and learn about the importance of this day and how locals honour the dead with unique rituals on this holiday. You will truly experience and live the Mexican culture. You will also have the chance to buy traditional foods from local vendors. Take memorable pictures of this once-in-a-lifetime experience. You'll get a chocolate skull during the tour to savour and remember this day.

You'll return to Mexico City late in the evening to be dropped off at the same meeting point
