What you can expect

“A once-in-a-lifetime encounter “ichigo ichie (一期一会)”. Discover the unique beauty of kimono.”

Every kimono is truly one of a kind.

No two are ever the same. Each piece holds its own storey and beauty, waiting to be discovered in that fleeting, perfect moment.

In Japan, we have a saying: ichigo ichie (一期一会). It means “treasure each encounter as if it happens only once in a lifetime,” capturing the spirit of cherishing the present moment.

Among more than 200 antique kimonos, the one that catches your eye is your ichigo-ichie, a unique encounter between you and the fabric.

Turn this precious moment into a one-of-a-kind work of art, and savour the special experience.

As you transform your chosen kimono into a piece of art, you are not only preserving legacy but also creating a deeply personal memory that will stay with you. Turn this precious moment into a one-of-a-kind work of art, and savour the experience of meeting something and someone you’ll never meet again in quite the same way.

Activity itinerary

This is a sustainable and creative experience where you can create one-of-a-kind interior design pieces using Kimono you no longer wear. You can take your finished original work of art home with you. - The traditional techniques used for kimono, such as dyeing, weaving, and hand-painting techniques will be introduced. - You will select your favourite colours and patterns from more than 200 antique kimonos. - We will explain the historical background and the symbolic meaning of the chosen kimono pattern and the symbolic meaning of each season in Japan. Knowing the storey behind the pattern adds deep value and individuality to the piece. - Using traditional Japanese backing techniques, you will attach the selected fabric to the panel. While carefully providing tips on each step of the process, we will work together to create a one-of-a-kind work of art. - You can take your finished original work of art home with you. You can enjoy it for a long time as an interior decoration for your home or office, or as a special souvenir. The venue is an art gallery on Meguro Interior Street. This is a popular area for those interested in interior design.
