Enjoy a day full of nature knowledge, tradition and crafts! Learn a lot about the canary island date palm and how to make your own basket from it!
We will meet at the entrance of Finca La Mangita to take a stroll around the place together. I explain a lot about the local flora, the mango-production, and abtou the canary island date palms: their biology, history and use. We learn to differentiate the male and female, and we collect palm brooms, which is the starting point for our baskets.
Starting with weaving, will make the circular base, “The Sun.” This is quite challenging because we work with three twigs at a time. When we finish the base, I serve a homemade canary snack. After the lunch break, we'll make the side walls of our baskets. Finally, we braised the edge and the handle. All in all, it takes about 5 hours for the weaving. Everyone will finish her or his own basket, I promise! It is a unique, authentic and extremely fulfilling experience!
