What you can expect

  • The tour starts at the cruise port in Akureyri and initially runs along the fjord with a view of the city of Akureyri, over the Vikurskarð mountain pass to the beautiful Góðafoss waterfall.
From there, we continue across two plateaus to Lake Mývatn, where we make several stops. You will experience pseudo-craters, bizarre lava formations, boiling mud springs, craters, and the warm-water-filled cave Gjrotagjá, known from the series Game of Thrones.

The duration of the tour is approximately 8 hours; the departure times are adjusted to the cruise ships' docking times.
