Scent, Symbol and Song: A soulfull Day in Fez
1. Warm Welcome & Introduction
- Meet & greet with the host family in their Medina home. Offer mint tea or rosewater handwashing as a gesture of hospitality.
- Share a brief cultural introduction to the day’s elements: hammam, henna, tea, meal, and music.
2. Traditional Hammam Experience
- Visit a local, authentic hammam (not a tourist spa).
- Include:
- Traditional belgha (slippers) or wraps
- Natural black soap (savon beldi), ghassoul clay, and kessa scrub glove
- Optional local hammam guide/helper to explain the process and assist if needed.
3. Henna Tattoo Session
- A natural henna paste prepared on-site or ahead of time.
- A local henna artist explains the meaning of motifs (protection, joy, fertility, beauty).
- Guests receive hand or forearm tattoos (small, tasteful designs)
4. Traditional Home-Cooked Meal
- A shared table d’hôte meal with the host family. Possible dishes:
- Tagine (chicken with preserved lemon, lamb with prunes, or vegetable-based)
- Fresh bread, zaalouk, taktouka, and seasonal fruits
- Mint tea, or optionally sfouf or chebakia (festive sweets)
5. Private Music Performance or Sharing
