Rich in minerals, the thermal waters of Rio Negro Hot Springs offer rejuvenating and therapeutic properties that have been cherished for centuries by people around the world. Naturally heated by Rincon de la Vieja — the largest and most active volcano in Guanacaste, Costa Rica — these volcanic hot springs bubble up along the Rio Negro, surrounded by dense dry tropical forest for a beautiful and peaceful setting.

The crystal-clear river flows past 10 pools built along its banks, each filled with mineral-rich thermal waters heated deep within the volcano. Two suspension bridges connect both sides of the river, giving you access to pools on either bank.

For a truly rejuvenating treatment, apply the hot volcanic mud to your body — it works just like a spa body masque. Once it dries, rinse it off in the cool river waters before sinking back into the warm thermal pools.

Dressing rooms, bathrooms, and lockers are available at the entrance. From there, a scenic 350-meter walk through the woods leads you to the thermal springs.
