    Southern Aso Railway

    Take the unique Southern Aso Railway from Tateno Station to Minamiaso-Shirakawamizu Station, travelling slowly through the foothills of Mount Aso and enjoying the beautiful natural scenery of the southern Aso region.
    The train winds through mountains and countryside, with constantly changing views outside the windows. Enjoy panoramic views of the majestic Aso Five Peaks, as well as forests, open fields, and clear streams along the way.
    Each season offers a different experience: fresh green scenery in spring, lush landscapes in summer, colourful autumn foliage, and peaceful mountain views in winter.
    This is more than just a train ride—it is a scenic journey through the beautiful landscapes of Aso.

    Time for some jaw-dropping nature. You’re heading to one of the world’s largest active volcanoes—Mount Aso! Depending on safety conditions, you may get up close to the steaming crater. It’s wild, it’s powerful, and it’s unforgettable.
    ***Notice: The crater of Mount Aso is currently closed due to a helicopter accident. Visitors can only view it from a distance and are not allowed to go up. The reopening time will be subject to official announcements.

    Wander through Kusasenri, a dreamy green plateau where cows and horses roam freely. Try a gentle horseback ride across the grasslands, no experience needed. Pop into the Aso Volcano Museum to learn how this volcanic wonderland came to be, with live footage from the crater and super cool displays.(Ticket excluded).

    Kumamoto Castle

    Kumamoto Castle is one of Japan's most famous historic castles. Construction began in 1601 under Kato Kiyomasa, the first lord of the Kumamoto Domain and a renowned castle builder, and took approximately seven years to complete.
