What you can expect

  • Discover the Algarve through its food, people and traditions.

Your experience begins at The Kitchen in Lagos, where you'll meet your cooking instructor, our team and your fellow guests. Together, we'll walk to the Municipal Market of Lagos to discover the fresh fish and seafood of the Algarve coast.

There, you'll meet Mr. Lopes, our friendly local fishmonger, who cleans and prepares our fish before we take it back to The Kitchen. He's always happy to pose for a photo with you, so don't be shy!

Back at The Kitchen, aprons on! During this hands-on Portuguese cooking class, you'll prepare all the fresh ingredients and learn how to make one of the Algarve's most iconic dishes: Seafood Cataplana.
Ever wondered what makes Cataplana so special? Its distinctive, traditionally copper pan and enclosed cooking method are just the beginning. Your instructor will share its history, cooking techniques and connection to Algarve food culture as you prepare your dish.

While the Cataplana is cooking, we'll turn our attention to another Portuguese favourite: Garlic Prawns (Camarões ao Alhinho).

Then comes our favourite moment: gathering around our shared table to enjoy everything we've prepared, accompanied by one of our favourite Algarve wines. We'll finish with a traditional Algarve Orange Roulade (Torta de Laranja) and a taste of Amarguinha, our local almond liqueur.

Whether you're a complete beginner or a passionate home cook, this small-group experience is about much more than following a recipe. It's about discovering local ingredients, meeting the people behind our food, sharing stories and experiencing authentic Portuguese hospitality.

Join us around our table and connect with the flavours, people and traditions of the Algarve.
