Meeting/Redemption Point
- WMM8+PP, Otukou 3382, New Zealand | Meeting Point is the intersection of State Highway 46 (Volcanic Loop Highway) and Ketetahi Road. There is plenty of designated free secure parking available along the side of the highway that is monitored by Kaitiaki throughout the day without time limit. We will be in a Red Bus or White Van with "Owhango Adventures" on the side. If travelling from Taupo Turangi, make sure to take HWY 1 and turn onto HWY 46 (National Park). Once you are on HWY 46, it will take 15-20 minutes to get to the meeting point. If travelling from National Park Village, take HWY 47. Travel that road for approximately 25 to 30 minutes, then turn right onto HWY 46 (Rangipo). It will take approximately 10 minutes to get to the meeting point from there.

About the Tongariro Alpine Crossing
The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is New Zealand’s most famous day hike. Located in Tongariro National Park (UNESCO World Heritage Area), the 20.2km trail crosses spectacular volcanic terrain including Emerald Lakes, Red Crater, lava flows and alpine valleys.
Distance: 20.2 km (12 miles) one way
Time required: 6–8 hours
Elevation gain: approx. 1,196 metres
This is a challenging alpine hike. Weather conditions can change quickly.
Important – DOC Booking Required
All walkers must complete a free booking/notification with the Department of Conservation before hiking the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. Please register online before arrival.
