On a 1 hour guided tour get close up to New Zealand's world-famous glowworms and learn all about their amazing behaviour and life cycle. Walk among delicate crystal formations on the easy access concrete path suitable for all ages. the tour starts with a 300m walk through sculpted limestone rocks and natives forest before entering down 30 steps into the cave. People who cannot walk the 300m due to physical issues can park closer. Torches are provided and no special clothing is required. The cave is about 15 degrees Celsius so it is good to have a warm layer if you feel the cold. This privately owned cave was only opened to public viewing in early 2023 after being kept secret for over a hundred years. It has featured on the German film, Das Traumschiff in 2025 and the UK travel show Cruising with Susan Calman also in 2025. This is the closest glowworm cave to Auckland and about 2 hours drive North. Before booking, you should look on a map to see where we are in NZ. There is also about 10km of walking tracks, friendly goats to feed, coffee and muffins, ice-creams, chips, drinks and you can also stay in a tent or motorhome.
