Begin with a pickup from your Entebbe hotel and transfer to the Nakiwogo landing site on the shores of Lake Victoria. After a safety briefing and life jacket fitting, board a traditional canoe and set off through narrow channels lined with papyrus reeds, where the swamp gradually reveals its residents.

Your guide, a member of the local fishing community, has spent years observing the rhythms of this wetland and knows where the shoebill stork has recently been active. While the shoebill is the star attraction, Mabamba is home to over 260 recorded bird species, and your guide will help you spot and identify as many as possible along the way — from the African pygmy goose and malachite kingfisher to the papyrus gonolek and blue-headed coucal.

After the exploring the swamp, sail back through the channels — often a quieter, golden-light return if you’ve chosen the sunset departure — before disembarking at Nakiwogo and transferring back to your hotel.
