Experience one of Ushuaia’s most spectacular and challenging mountain treks on a full-day adventure to Vinciguerra Glacier and Tempanos Lagoon.
Leave the city behind and venture deep into the wild landscapes of Tierra del Fuego. The trail takes you through native Fuegian forests, peat bogs, valleys and rugged mountain terrain, with constantly changing scenery as you gain elevation towards the mountains.
Along the way, you will reach the stunning Tempanos Lagoon, surrounded by dramatic peaks and the imposing Vinciguerra Glacier. From the lagoon, the route continues towards the glacier, making Vinciguerra the final destination of this demanding mountain adventure.
Depending on the season and the conditions on the day of the excursion, the glacier area offers different ways to experience this unique environment. During winter, when the ice is sufficiently stable and conditions are suitable, it may be possible to explore the glacier’s ice formations, including crevasses and ice holes. During summer, when the snow has receded from the glacier’s surface, conditions may allow an ice trekking experience on the glacier itself.
These glacier activities are strictly seasonal and depend on weather, snow and ice conditions, safety assessments and the decisions of the professional guide. The itinerary may therefore vary to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
The trek covers approximately 14 km and involves around 600 metres of elevation gain. The trail includes uneven and rocky terrain, muddy and wet sections, peat bogs, steep slopes and changing mountain conditions. Some sections can be physically demanding, particularly depending on the season and weather.
This experience is recommended for travellers with a good level of physical fitness who are accustomed to hiking or trekking. Previous trekking experience is strongly recommended.
Throughout the adventure, you will be accompanied by a professional local guide who will lead the group, provide assistance along the trail and adapt the itinerary according to weather, trail and glacier conditions, as well as the group's pace.
