What you can expect

  • Begin your journey with a pickup from your hotel in Kampala or Emtebbe. Alternatively, head directly to the meeting point to save cost. Travel to the Nakiwogo landing site in Entebbe, and embark on a boat ride to the Mabamba Swamps National Park, situated on the western shores of Lake Victoria.

    Start the motorised canoe with a local guide explaining the national park and spend 2–3 hours navigating through the narrow canals while searching for a variety of rare and exclusive local bird species. Next, head to the main starting point and switch to a smaller boat to seek out the shoebill stork.

    An official guide from the national park will be on board to assist in spotting the shoebill stork, allowing for some great photo opportunities. During your journey, immerse yourself in the local environment and search for various bird species.

    Upon ending your birdwatching adventure, enjoy your homemade cake with drinks then the boat will return to the original departure point, where you will either be dropped off at your hotel or return to the first meeting point depending on your tour option.
