What you can expect
DAY 01
The tour begins with pick-up at 7:30 a.m. from your hotel in the city centre. We will then head to the Salinas y Aguada Blanca National Reserve, located at an elevation of over 4,000 metres (13,123 feet), to observe local wildlife and Andean camelids such as llamas, alpacas, vicuñas, and guanacos. We will also stop at the Patahuasi community to enjoy mate or Andean herbal tea to help us acclimatise to the altitude.
Afterwards, we will continue our journey through the Andean highlands. We will enjoy beautiful views of pajonales (moss-covered grasslands) and wetlands, where, depending on the season, we may be lucky enough to spot Andean flamingos. We will then reach the highest point of our trip, PATAPAMPA (4,890 metres/16,046 feet), a location from which we can observe the Andean mountain range and the region's active volcanoes. We will arrive in Chivay at approximately 1:00 pm for an optional lunch (45 soles).
In the afternoon, we will have the option to visit the thermal baths (additional cost: 15 Peruvian soles).
At 7:00 PM, we will have dinner with a local dance show. This show lasts for 2 hours, during which guests can enjoy the performance, participate, and take photos in local costumes as souvenirs.
DAY 02
6:30 AM: Pick-up from Chivay to begin our tour to the Condor Viewpoint and the Colca Canyon. Along the way, we will make stops to explore the beautiful villages of the Colca Valley and its impressive terraces, which date back to Inca or pre-Inca times and are still used today to grow grains, cereals, and other Andean crops.
At 8:30 a.m., we will arrive at the Mirador del Condor viewing point, where we will spend 1 hour waiting for the flight of the king of the mountains and observing the depths of the canyon. We can also arrange an optional 45-minute hike, subject to prior coordination with our tour guide.
We will then return to the town of Chivay, stop for an optional lunch, and head back to the city of Arequipa, with an estimated arrival time of 4:30 PM. Our tour will end very close to Arequipa's Main Square.
