Seoul is fast, crowded and constantly changing. Yet between its busy streets are quieter places where older ways of living, worshipping and making things remain part of daily life. This morning walk explores that side of the city through hanok neighbourhoods, temple customs, traditional crafts and Korean tea.
We begin in Bukchon, where hanok homes stand alongside modern Seoul. As we walk, you’ll hear how traditional Korean homes were shaped by family life, the seasons and social customs, and how the neighbourhood has changed as the city developed around it.
At Jogyesa Temple, we take time to understand the customs you may see: bowing, prayer and wishes for family, health or peace of mind. Your guide will provide a small yeomju, a string of Korean prayer beads, so you can make a quiet wish of your own if you would like to.
We then explore streets known for Korean crafts, where you can find handmade paper, calligraphy brushes, seals and artisan shops. At a traditional teahouse, we sit down for an included cup of Korean tea and time to talk about what we’ve seen.
The walk ends among old hanok buildings that now house cafés, restaurants and small businesses. It is a chance to consider how Seoul preserves its past while the city continues to change.
This experience is for travellers who enjoy conversation, cultural context and time to take things in. Depending on the date you select, you can join a small-group walk or book a private walk for your own party.
