What you can expect

  • AriHana Kyoto is an indoor playground offering cultural activities in Kyoto. Families can enjoy traditional Japanese play like origami and kendama together.

Take a seat on the tatami floor in a peaceful Japanese-style room and experience traditional calligraphy on washi (traditional Japanese paper) hand fan. First, choose your favourite kanji character. One of the most popular options is to write your own name, translated into kanji. Our staff will help you select characters based on meaning and sound, and guide you through using brush and ink to carefully write on a handcrafted washi hand fan. Even if it’s your first time using a calligraphy brush, don’t worry—our team will support you step by step.

While your calligraphy dries, you’ll move on to an origami experience. Choose your favourite colour and pattern of paper and try folding traditional designs such as cranes or flowers. We’ll start with simple shapes that are perfect for beginners and children. If any step is tricky, our staff will assist you with gentle, hands-on support. Those familiar with origami can also try more advanced models if they’d like a challenge.

A variety of traditional Japanese toys and games are also available. These timeless activities, enjoyed across generations, offer fun and cultural insight for adults as well.

At the end of the session, you’ll take home your completed fan and origami creations as a unique and memorable souvenir. AriHana Kyoto invites you to enjoy a relaxed and enriching moment of Japanese culture in a calm and welcoming setting.

We prepare a Cultural Experience Certificate for each participant, with their name and the date of the visit. It’s a small gift from us, so you can take home not only memories but also a special token of your time in Kyoto.

Come and play at AriHana Kyoto – a hidden gem you won’t find anywhere else. ✨ It’s a great way to create lasting memories during your Kyoto trip.
