    The border, made easy
    Leave Samarkand at 07:30. Your guide crosses the border with you and helps at every step; allow 30–60 minutes. A Tajik car waits on the other side.
    Panjakent bazaar
    Stop at the local bazaar for fresh bread, dried fruit and a first taste of Tajik life.

    All seven lakes
    Drive up the Shing Valley, lake by lake: Mijgon, Soya, Gushor, Nofin, Khurdak and Marguzor. Legend says they are seven sisters who wept for their father.
    Plov at Marguzor
    You may have seen photos, but sitting on the shore of Marguzor with a plate of plov, cliffs reflected in the water, is something else.

    Hazorchashma, “a thousand springs”
    End at the highest lake with extra time to walk, take photos or swim in the clear, cold water.
    Back in Samarkand around 19:00.
