Your Welcomer will not only be your driver but also your friendly local guide. Throughout the journey, they will share historical facts, cultural insights, and personal recommendations to help you immerse yourself in the Belgian way of life. Feel free to take photos, ask about hidden gems, or request suggestions on local treats and where to enjoy them.
The tour includes hotel pickup and dropoff with a professional English-speaking driver. It is fully private and customisable, allowing you to explore Ghent at your own pace.
Your first stop will be the Belfry of Ghent, the tallest belfry in Belgium. If you climb to the top, you will be rewarded with panoramic views of the city. Next to the belfry is the historic Cloth Hall, which once played a key role in the medieval cloth trade. A short walk away is the Town Hall, a striking building that uniquely blends Gothic and Renaissance architectural styles.
Another must-see is Saint Bavos Cathedral. Its beautifully decorated interior includes the baroque high altar, a Rococo oak pulpit, and famous works of art such as the Ghent Altarpiece also known as the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb and the painting Saint Bavo enters the Convent at Ghent by Rubens.
The tour continues to Saint Nicholas Church, one of the oldest landmarks in Ghent. Along with the belfry and Saint Bavos Cathedral, it forms a trio of medieval towers that overlook the historic city centre. This church is located at Korenmarkt, a lively square filled with cafes perfect for a coffee break.
Nearby, St Michaels Bridge or Grasbrug offers scenic views across the River Lys. From here, you can access the quays of Graslei and Korenlei, where the beautiful old buildings are reflected in the water. A highlight of the tour is the Castle of the Counts, the only remaining medieval castle in Flanders with an intact moat and defence system. Explore its rooms and view a collection of historical artefacts including medieval torture equipment.
The final stop is the charming district of Patershol. Walk its cobblestone streets and enjoy traditional Flemish cuisine at one of its cosy restaurants or pubs. Patershol is a must for food lovers.
At the end of your visit, your Welcomer will drive you back to your accommodation. This day trip can also be combined with a visit to Bruges. Please contact localexpert@welcomepickups.com. for more information.
