Your day starts hassle-free: we'll pick you up at your hotel in Dakar and take you straight to the cruise port to board a ferry to Gorée Island. Upon arriving at this car-free enclave, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you'll wander through its ochre-colored streets lined with bougainvillea, colonial houses, and local artists' studios.
Accompanied by an official guide, you'll visit the Maison des Esclaves, where you'll get an up-close look at the historic “Door of No Return” and the legacy of the transatlantic slave trade. Then, enjoy a full lunch by the sea, with authentic flavours such as fresh fish or Thiéboudienne.
Back in Dakar, you'll explore the city's major landmarks: the imposing Monument to African Renaissance —with the option of climbing its 198 steps for a 360° panoramic view—, the Grand Mosque of Dakar by the Atlantic, and the historic Independence Square, as well as the lively handicraft markets.
The day ends with a private transfer back to your hotel, so you don't have to worry about a thing.
Important: The House of Slaves is closed on Mondays for its weekly day off.
If the House of Slaves is closed or unavailable, we offer a guaranteed full refund for the affected booking.
If you need an English-speaking tour guide for the excursion, please book the excursion in advance.
