What you can expect
Join us for a 3-hour Arctic evening adventure in search of the northern lights.
We meet at the Abisko.net reception, where your guide makes sure everyone is dressed warmly and ready for the evening. Depending on weather and snow conditions, we adapt the route and equipment to create the best possible experience. If needed, snowshoes are provided.
Together with your guide — and a few of our friendly retired Alaskan huskies — we hike through the landscapes of the Abisko Valley, following forest trails beneath the Arctic sky.
Our retired huskies have spent years running and working in the Arctic mountains, and we care for them throughout their entire lives. After their working years, they remain an important part of our team — still active, social, and always happy to join new adventures on the trail.
The hike covers about 4 km return, with a gradual uphill section leading to an open area with wide views of the sky — perfect for watching the northern lights.
Along the way, we stop at scenic locations ideal for night photography, and your guide shares helpful tips on how to capture the aurora when conditions are right.
We continue to a traditional lávvu (tipi tent), where you can warm up by the fire, enjoy a hot drink, and taste classic Swedish cinnamon buns warmed over the fire while keeping an eye on the sky. If conditions allow, we also light a fire outside — a perfect place to gather beneath the Arctic sky while waiting for the northern lights.
Winter in Abisko offers everything from calm, star-filled skies to drifting snow and crisp autumn nights early in the season. Whatever the conditions, this is a genuine Arctic experience in the heart of the mountains.
With a bit of luck, we return beneath dancing northern lights.
