We will depart from the city of Huaraz towards the magical southern region of the Callejón de Huaylas. Our first stop will be at Querococha Lagoon, a jewel of the Cordillera Blanca that will leave you breathless with its beauty.
This stunning lagoon, with its deep green waters, is located 57 kilometres southwest of Huaraz at an altitude of 3,972 metres above sea level. From here, you can also admire an impressive geological fault in the shape of the map of Peru—an incredible sight you won’t want to miss!
Continuing our journey, we will cross the Cahuish Tunnel, the highest point of our route at 4,516 metres above sea level, to enter the fascinating Callejón de Conchucos. As we pass through charming villages, we will head towards our second stop: the historic town of Chavín.
Here, you will explore the legendary Chavín de Huántar Archaeological Complex, home to the enigmatic underground galleries, the iconic tenon heads, the majestic Monolithic Lanzón, and renowned pieces such as the Tello Obelisk and the Raimondi Stela.
The Chavín archaeological site is located at 3,180 metres above sea level and is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As a religious and cultural centre of the Chavín civilisation (900-200 BC), it is surrounded by the majestic Andes and offers a unique experience for lovers of archaeology, history, and pre-Inca cultural heritage.
To recharge, you will have the option to enjoy a delicious lunch at a cosy local restaurant before our next stop: the National Museum of Chavín. This museum houses an incredible collection of ceramics, original artefacts such as the Tello Obelisk, and other discoveries that unveil the secrets of this fascinating pre-Inca culture.
Finally, we will return to the city of Huaraz.
