A professional naturalistic guide will pick you up in Catania (where all the excursions start from) at your hotel or at an agreed meeting point, at around 9 a.m.
He will introduce you to the fascinating world of volcanic phenomena, walking through ancient woods, extinct craters and past lava flows (usually the Sartorius craters or the 2002 craters on the northeast side of Etna).
You will explore a volcanic cave (for example Grotta dei Ladroni or Grotta Cassone), we will provide you the necessary equipment (helmets and torches). In case of heavy snow and/or ice the visit may be cancelled for safety reason.
Our guide will lead you where nature remains uncontaminated to admire different kind of plants and animals.
If the weather conditions are good, you’ll have a snack composed of traditional Sicilian bakery products combined with a glass of Sicilian wine, surrounded by a wonderful landscape. Otherwise, you’ll have lunch in a nice farmhouse restaurant up along a mountain road for a genuine and savoury Sicilian lunch in a convivial atmosphere.
Then, in the afternoon, you’ll have a self-guided visit to the historical centre of Taormina, where you will admire the Ionian coast from one side and Mount Etna on the other, immersed in a picturesque and unforgettable atmosphere!
You will have the chance to visit the elegant avenue that separates the medieval city gates, Porta Catania and Porta Messina, explore the beautiful view down the alleys and to admire the extraordinary Greek theatre.
The guide will wait for you at the entrance of the city. You’ll be provided of maps containing all the stops of the trip.
You'll be back at around 6.00/6.30 p.m.
The journey can endure little variations on the itinerary or be cancelled based on the weather conditions, in this case the opinion of the guide is final.
During the excursions you will reach a maximum altitude of 2000 metres (area of expertise of our guides).
