Overview

Join an unforgettable Highland adventure led by an experienced, qualified guide. Immerse yourself in history, breathtaking landscapes, and a taste of Scotland’s finest whisky, without the hassle of driving.

We begin in Inverness and start our journey to Culloden Battlefield, where the Jacobite cause met its tragic end in 1746. Walk the battlefield and explore the powerful relics that bring history to life.

Stepping back 4.000 years we visit the peaceful Clava Cairns, which Diana Gabaldon featured in her Outlander Books as Craig Na Dun.

Next, step into the elegance of Brodie Castle before discovering the medieval ruins of Elgin Cathedral, a striking remnant of Scotland’s past.

No Highland tour is complete without whisky, so we visit Speyside’s world-famous distilleries for a tour and tasting of fine single malts.

Finally, we pass the charming village of Carrbridge, home to Scotland’s oldest stone bridge, a spot to reflect on an incredible day before returning to Inverness.

Activity itinerary

Culloden Battlefield
  • 1h 30m
Travel from our pick-up point through the heart of Inverness. Hear about the early beginnings of the town of Inverness to the city it is today. Heading east you will take a moving trip to the last pitched battleground on mainland Britain, Culloden Battlefield. This would be a walking tour of the battlefield site, sharing with you her family links to the Culloden in 1746. You will find out why there was such a devastating loss of life during the battle, causing an end to the Jacobite era. There is also a visitor centre, cafe, and shop for you to explore. Culloden was featured in the Outlander books and TV series. If you are a fan Cath can point out the links between the two.
Clava Cairns
  • 30m
A short journey down into the valley behind Culloden Battlefield you will visit the 4,0000-year-old chambered burial ground of Clava Cairns or Balnuaran as it is also known. There are many theories as to why the stones were positioned here. Cath will share with you some of the folklore and legends of the place. The cairns were the original stones that became Craigh Na Dun in Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series of books and TV shows.
Brodie Castle
  • 1h 30m
  • Admission ticket not included
Next, we travel to the stunning Brodie Castle, a 16th-century fortress that was home to the Brodie clan for centuries. With its grand rooms filled with fine art and antiques, this castle offers a glimpse into Scotland’s noble past. The surrounding gardens are a delight, especially in spring when the daffodils bloom in abundance..
Elgin
  • 1h
From there, we head to Elgin, a town rich in medieval history. The highlight here is Elgin Cathedral, often called the ‘Lantern of the North.’ Even in ruins, this cathedral remains one of Scotland’s most breathtaking medieval structures. Take a wander through its towering arches and soak in its dramatic history. Stop for a light lunch.
Cardhu Distillery
  • 2h
  • Admission ticket not included
No Highland tour would be complete without a dram of whisky, so we make our way into Speyside, Scotland’s premier whisky region. The region is home to some of the world’s best-known distilleries, including Glenfiddich, Cardhu, and Aberlour. We’ll stop at your distilleries of choice, where you’ll have the chance to learn about the whisky-making process and enjoy a tasting session of the finest single malts. I would advise one whisky tour and a couple of tastings at other stops on our route.
Glenfiddich Distillery
  • 45m
  • Admission ticket not included
Choose this as your distillery tour or stop to savour the rich, smooth flavours of Highland whisky, crafted with pure water and centuries of tradition. Whether it's a tour of a historic distillery or a dram by a crackling fire, every sip tells a storey of Scotland’s rugged landscape and time-honoured craftsmanship.
