Activity itinerary

Faros Armenistis
  • 30m
Armenistis Lighthouse (Faros Armenistis) built in 1891 stands in its silence, as a tribute to the rich maritime history of Mykonos island while remaining fully functional today. Situated on the north-western part of the island, at Fanari area, around 6.5 kilometres from Mykonos town on the north coast road of the island, the lighthouse overlooks the stretch of sparkling blue water between Mykonos and the neighbouring island of Tinos. Its strategic position offers scenic views of the surrounding areas and is well worth visiting to get a sense of the island’s fascinating history and enjoy its spectacular beauty. The decision to build the Armenistis Lighthouse was prompted by the sinking of the British steamship Volta in 1887 off the north coast of the island. Eleven people lost their lives in that unfortunate incident. Steps had to be taken to avoid this type of tragedy from happening again, and by 1891 the 19 metre tall lighthouse was standing as a guiding beacon to incoming ships.
Agios Sostis
  • 1h
Agios Sostis in Mykonos is among the quietest beaches on the island due to its location, a bit far from the noisy southern beaches of Mykonos. It is an unspoiled area without any amenities, a characteristic that makes visitors feel totally free. The beach is sandy and stretches for about 250 metres. Due to its secluded location, the beach is favoured by nudists. If you are into skinny-deeping, it is the best place for you!
Ftelia Beach
  • 30m
Ftelia in Mykonos is a beautiful, north-orientated beach. It is affected by the Meltemi (the Cycladic wind coming from the north) and, for that reason, is particularly famous among windsurfers. The shore is sandy and the sea turquoise. It comprises a very peaceful and uncrowded beach, which is somewhat surprising because it is quite accessible from Chora. A beach bar lies at the beach's edge, providing guests with seating under umbrellas. Additionally, the beach is also well-known for its neighbouring neolithic settlement. In fact, it is believed that Ajax the Lesser - one of the main heroes of Homer's Iliad - was buried there. You can't approach Ftelia via bus, so private means of transport are the only way to visit the beautiful secluded beach.
Fokos Beach
  • 1h
Featuring a wild landscape on a rocky bay in the northern part of the island, this is one of Mykonos’ “hidden beaches,” free of crowds. It’s faced by a taverna, but is usually nearly deserted, with only a few sunbathers. It is, however, a popular spot for horseback riding, so don’t be surprised if you see horses coming down the road towards the beach. If you were wondering if there were any tranquil, undeveloped beaches left in Mykonos, you have found it. It feels quite remote, despite not being far from Mykonos Town. Fokos can only be reached via private means after a turn in Ano Mera. It is located right after the artificial lake of Marathi, which provides the island with fresh water.
Merchia Beach
  • 30m
Merchia Beach in Mykonos is located in the northeast part of Mykonos, 8 km away from Ano Mera Village. The beach is situated in a small bay and is ideal for travellers seeking the alternative side of Mykonos. Merchia Beach has a small, sandy coast with a few pebbles and clear blue waters, surrounded by little vegetation and a few picturesque houses mainly belonging to fishermen. No umbrellas or sunbeds are available, although you will find some salt cedars that offer shade if you haven't brought your umbrella, especially during the hot summer days. In addition, given that the place is secluded, with no taverns, restaurants, or snack bars around, it is recommended to have water and food with you. However, keep in mind that access to Merchia is a bit difficult because you have to cross a dirt road to get to the beach; it is totally worth it, though. Moreover, within a short distance from the beach is the small chapel of Saint Nicholas, built on the rocks right by the sea.
Monastery of Panayia Tourliani
  • 30m
  • Admission ticket not included
The monastery of Panagia Tourliani in Mykonos is situated 8 km from the town, in Ano Mera village. The construction was established in 1542 by two priests and named after the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The monastery was restored in 1767 and owes its present name to an icon of the Virgin Mary found in the nearby area of Tourlos. Since then, Panagia Tourliani is the tutelary of the island and celebrates on August 15th. The building's architecture is quite impressive, with a whitewashed exterior and a coloured dome. A beautiful marble fountain lies in the yard outside the church. In the interior, one encounters an impressive wooden iconostasis (altar screen) made in 1775 by Florentine artists. Icons of the apostles and saints, as well as scenes from the New Testament, are depicted. The monastery also boasts a small ecclesiastical museum which includes wood carvings, embroideries, vestments, holy icons, and the first bells of the monastery.
Ano Mera
  • 1h
Ano Mera in Mykonos is the second bigger village after Chora (main town) and is one of the oldest villages of the island. It offers a few hotels and some rooms and studios for rent. It is a quiet village where locals continue their everyday life without being interrupted by a crowd of tourists as it happens in the capital. Ano Mera also hosts some taverns along its main square, where you can taste traditional dishes at a normal cost. Cafes and pastry shops also lie around the square.
