Espíritu Santo is a UNESCO-protected island in the Gulf of California — the sea Jacques Cousteau called the world's aquarium. This is the day tour that shows you why, without rushing you.

Your day starts with pickup at your hotel in central La Paz at 10.30am. After a quick check-in, board our 35-foot boat — shaded, with cushioned seats, coolers, and a bathroom on board, the only one on this route.

First stop: San Rafaelito, home to a colony of California sea lions. From September to May you'll slip into the water and snorkel beside them as they twirl and play around you — a regulated 20-minute encounter that protects the colony and makes the moment feel wild and real. From June to August, during their breeding season, we observe the colony up close from the boat and dedicate more water time to the island's coral reefs, when visibility is at its very best.

Next, El Corralito: white sand, calm turquoise water, and a living coral reef busy with tropical fish. Your guide — a marine biologist — reads the reef with you, pointing out what most visitors swim right past.

Lunch is served on the island: our original fish ceviche made fresh that morning with the day's catch, sandwiches, and cold drinks. Keep your eyes on the horizon — dolphins, mobula rays, sea turtles, and seasonal whales make regular appearances, and with a bit of luck they'll join your crossing.

The finale is Playa Balandra, Mexico's most famous beach — shallow, glassy, and unreal in person. Photos, a walk to the mushroom rock, one last swim.

Back at your hotel by 6pm. Snorkelling gear, life jackets, protected-area permits, traveller insurance, and a bilingual expert guide are all included. Total group size is limited to 18 travellers.
