Explore highlights of enchanting Portogruaro on this small-group guided walking tour. Discover sights like the Pozzetto del Pilacorte, the Cathedral of Sant'Andrea, and much more, as you learn about the rich history of this charming town on the Lemene River.
Start from the access gates, Porta San Giovanni. See the colours of the water of the canal it overlooks and the pastel colours of the Venetian-style buildings of Portogruaro.
Stroll through the alleys between charming restaurants and shops to arrive at the historic centre of the city, dominated by the town hall, an ancient, Gothic-style building.
A few steps away, admire the Equestrian Monument to the Fallen of World War II and the beautiful Loggiato della Pescheria, where just a few years ago, fishermen from nearby towns decided to build the wooden chapel of the Beata Vergine delle Grazie.
Discover another gem near the town hall, the fountain known as Pozzetto del Pilacorte, or delle Gru, based on the characteristic birds that once inhabited the area and from which the town takes its name.
Continue the tour with a visit to the Cathedral of Sant'Andrea, built in the 19th century on the remains of an ancient Romanesque church, and admire the numerous works of art and the adjacent bell tower in Venetian style. With its slope of 42 cm, it’s the third-most leaning tower in Italy after the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa.
Walk through the arcades and ancient medieval buildings to conclude the guided tour at the characteristic Sant'Andrea bridge over the Lemene River, with its two spectacular Mills of Sant'Andrea.
