What you can expect

  • Begin with a pickup from your hotel in central Puno and transfer to the main port. Board a comfortable tourist boat and enjoy a scenic 25–30 minute ride across Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world.

Arrive at the fascinating Uros Floating Islands, one of Peru’s most unique cultural attractions. These man-made islands are entirely built from totora reeds, a native aquatic plant used by the Uros people for construction, transport, and even food.

Explore two different islands and engage directly with local families. Learn about their traditions, daily life, and sustainable way of living based on fishing, handicrafts, and community-based tourism.

Your professional guide will explain the ancestral engineering techniques used to build and maintain the islands, including the layering of totora reeds over floating root blocks. You’ll also have the option to take a traditional reed boat ride (optional), a unique way to experience how locals have navigated these waters for generations.

After approximately 2 hours, return to Puno and enjoy a carefully curated lunch at Tulipans Restaurant, known for its innovative Andean fusion cuisine. This dining experience blends traditional regional ingredients with modern culinary techniques, offering a refined taste of the Andes in a cosy and stylish setting.

Continue your journey with a pickup for your excursion to Sillustani, located about 30–40 minutes from Puno. Along the way, your guide will provide insight into the region’s history and the civilisations that predate the Inca Empire.

Arrive at the archaeological complex of Sillustani, dramatically set on a peninsula overlooking the stunning Umayo Lagoon. Explore this remarkable site, home to towering chullpas—cylindrical funerary towers reaching up to 12 metres (39 feet) high. Originally built by the Kolla culture and later used by the Incas, these structures served as burial sites for elite figures such as leaders and priests.

Admire the impressive stonework and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, making this one of the most photogenic locations near Puno.

Continue to the local community of Hatuncolla, where you’ll be welcomed by a local family. Experience rural Andean life first-hand and learn about traditional practices such as agriculture and camelid breeding. Discover how to distinguish native species like alpacas, llamas, and suris, and understand their importance in local culture and economy.

At the end of the day, return to Puno, arriving near the main square.
