What you can expect

Most visitors to Montserrat ride the cable car, photograph the monastery and leave. You'll hike to the top.

Sant Jeroni sits at 1,236 metres — the true summit of Montserrat, and a place the vast majority of tourists never reach. This small-group hike takes you beyond the crowds and up through the mountain's hidden trails, through ancient rock formations, sacred landmarks and sweeping Catalan countryside, to one of the most spectacular panoramic views in all of Spain.

The Hike:
Starting from the monastery, the trail climbs 537 metres over 8km of varied terrain — through the Via Crucis, past the famous Stairway to Heaven, and up through the otherworldly rock formations that have drawn climbers and pilgrims alike for centuries. Intermediate difficulty, 3-5 hours, with your guide bringing the mountain's geology, history and folklore to life along the way.

The Mountain:
Montserrat is more than a mountain. It's the spiritual heart of Catalonia — home to the Benedictine monks of Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey, and the legendary La Moreneta, the Black Madonna revered across the region. Your guide will bring the stories to life as you climb.

After the Hike:
Time is yours to explore — the monastery, the farmers market, the viewpoints. Entry to the monastery and the chance to see La Moreneta are not included in your tour price but can be purchased on-site, subject to availability.

Small Group, Big Difference:
With a maximum of just 6 guests, this is Montserrat experienced properly — at your pace, with space to breathe, and a guide who knows every stone of the mountain.

This is the Montserrat most people never see.
