Over a decade ago, uncatalogued boxes containing 30 animal mummies were rediscovered in the Egyptian collection storage vaults of the Brooklyn Museum. Today, this mysterious facet of Ancient Egyptian culture is revealed in Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art’s newest exhibition, Soulful Creatures: Animal Mummies in Ancient Egypt. In partnership with the Brooklyn Museum, the exhibition features nearly 100 authentic artefacts including animal mummies, CT scans and x-rays, ancient Egyptian art, and artefacts related to their ritual significance. Soulful Creatures explores dynamic insights into the origins, techniques, and rituals of animal mummification, providing many provocative theories to explain these ancient practices.

Soulful Creatures: Animal Mummies in Ancient Egypt is organised by Yekaterina Barbash, Curator of Egyptian, Classical, and Ancient Near Eastern Art, and Edward Bleiberg, Curator Emeritus, Brooklyn Museum.

Souful Creatures is on display daily at Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art beginning on February 13, 2026 through September 13, 2026, from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., daily. Last admissions are sold 30 minutes prior to closing time.
