The “Frankfurt 1891” experience at Senseum Frankfurt takes visitors back to the year 1891. Here, they can explore the roots of this commercial metropolis, represented by the merchant Theodor Riedel, and learn how Frankfurt developed into the city it is today. To do so, guests first visit Mr. Riedel's colonial goods store and then learn about the history of Frankfurt in his study. Sitting in replica carriages, the virtual journey finally takes them through old Frankfurt to the 1891 International Electrotechnical Exhibition. Here, the time travellers witness the first three-phase current transmission from Lauffen to Frankfurt. A historic event!

First station: The colonial goods store – Here, visitors immerse themselves in the atmosphere of Frankfurt’s trade in 1891 without wearing a VR headset. You can see, touch, and even smell what everyday life was like at the time.

Second station: The study room – Again, without VR, you gain insight into the daily life and mindset of a middle-class Frankfurt family in the late 19th century, providing important historical context before the main experience.

Third station: The virtual reality carriage ride – This is the highlight of the journey. Seated in a recreated historical carriage, visitors put on a VR headset and experience a 360° virtual ride through Frankfurt in 1891 for approximately 15 minutes.
