Travel from San JosĂ© towards IrazĂș Volcano, located in the Central Cordillera near Cartago. As the road climbs towards the summit, the landscape changes with elevation, passing through areas of coffee cultivation and different types of mountain vegetation.
At IrazĂș Volcano National Park, visit the summit and explore the area around the volcano's main craters. The park has five craters, and the crater area is the main attraction for visitors.
On clear days, views from the summit can extend towards both the Pacific and Atlantic sides of Costa Rica. Weather conditions can affect visibility, and the summit is frequently affected by cloud and fog.
The trip leads to the summit of IrazĂș Volcano, where you can admire the main crater and its changing volcanic landscape. Depending on current volcanic and weather conditions, the crater may contain a lagoon whose water can vary in depth and colour.
After an exciting tour of the volcano, we will descend to the historical city of Cartago. We will stop at the Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels, an important pilgrimage site for Catholic believers. Each year, pilgrims from across Costa Rica travel to the basilica, with some making the journey on foot as an expression of their faith. The Basilica has large vaulted ceilings and exquisite examples of stained glass windows, a rich displays of carvings, statues and other pieces of art.
