The staff at the lobby were kind and attentive. The room and facilities were clean. The area is safe and close to restaurants and train stations. Bonus points for allowing me to check in at 10:00 am without additional fees.

the room was spacious but we had not realised that it was a shared bathroom as this was not listed until three or four lines down under Bathroom as a room amenity.

100% worth the stay
Everything about the location is worth the price. It's a few minutes away from Hiroshima station, they have luggage storage even after checking out, and it's super cheap for the overall stay. The only small negative is that you can sometimes hear the loud noises from outside in the street.

Average room. Beware shared bathrooms.
We found out that the room which we booked did not have an en-suite, and we were required to travel to the bottom floor, through the common area, to use a communal shower. This was not clear from the advertising, and we felt that it should have been made clearer. When we explained that we thought we had booked a room with an en-suite, the staff were defensive and showed little compassion after a long day of travel. The cost of upgrading to a room with an en-suite was almost the same cost as the room we had booked, which was not cheap to begin with. The carpet smelled of feet also. Otherwise the room was satisfactory and conveniently located close to the main train station and a short tram/bus ride from thw peace memorial park.

The site does not make it clear that there are NO IN ROOM BATHROOMS. There is a communal sink and toilet. There is a shower on the 1st floor. No business calling themselves a spa. Otherwise nice and clean with a kind staff

Thank you for your review. I am very happy that the staff was welcoming and accommodating. However, I am sorry to hear that there was a miscommunication regarding the shared baths and toilets. This has been communicated to the concerned staff and we are working to update the description on site. Though most of our rooms do share facilities we do have a few rooms with private bathrooms as well. We hope that this does not keep you away and that you give us another chance as we will definitely improve our services.

Sumiya was lovely. The staff were wonderful and very helpful, the rooms were clean, tidy, and nice to stay in.

Understaffed
Friendly. The lack of staffing was a problem for us though. We added a 2nd night in the only available room but with no one around we had to change plans in order to move later. There should be a way to get a hold of someone.

Hotel staff very friendly and location is good as close to jR station and walk into the city. Room a bit small for three of us as we stayed three nights and had large luggage but for a shorter stay then would of been sufficient. We had a room with own bathroom which also small but for the price of the room I think it is good value. We would stay again due to price, location and service.

Located only minutes walk from the main station everything is nearby. All the main attractions are walkable from here and even quicker by tram or bus. My room was warm, cozy and clean. The WiFi is strong and reliable. Had a very pleasant few days here.

Enjoyable stay near train station and amenities
Close to train station! Small hotel but clean and spotless. Reception was not there but reachable by (their) phone anytime, which we were happy with. There was hot and cold drinking water and microwave too in the lounge which was a bonus. Will stay again.

We had a pleasant stay. Short walking distance from the JR Hiroshima station. The hotel was clean and the rooms were spacious. The bathrooms are on the ground floor which may be annoying for some but we did t have any issues with it.

My Best Stay in Japan!
This is the best accommodation for our 10 days trip in Japan. The hotel room is very clean and spacious. I also like it the fact that they have enough hangers in the room for us to hang our layers of cloth. In addition, we bought so much stuff/ souvenirs and the space allowed us to pack without constraint. For the past few places I stayed, I woke up with stuffy nose but in Sumiya I woke up refreshed and energised. The staff at the service desk was very helpful. My son lost his phone and was recovered by the train conductor. Sumiya Spa & Hotel gladly accepted our request to collect the phone and helped to pay for shipping fees on our behalf so that we do not have to wait at the hotel. Hence we could spend sometimes at Miyajima Island and enjoyed a nice Okonomiyaki near the Miyajimaguchi station. This hotel is just behind Apa Hotel which is easy for us to locate and walk to the various tourist attractions. There is also a money changer counter besides the hotel with good rates, make it convenient for those who need extra cash to spend. Highly recommend and definitely will return.

Front desk English speaking boss is very helpful.
Never experienced share bathroom. But it's so clean, had hair dry, good shampoo, condition... The towels are very clean...
