"The front desk staff at HI-NYC is on 24/7 and is extremely helpful. I was able to switch my pre-booked reservation from a dormitory room to an available private room with no issues. The hostel is a short walk from the 1 subway station. My room was clean and spacious. Just note the building has an older elevator so give yourself extra time when checking out."

"The hotel is very close to the China Town and the Manhattan Bridge as well as Brooklyn Bridge and they are just walking distance. Good price of course and I will stay there if I go to New York."

"It was excellent for the solo traveler. I don’t believe it would work for someone in a wheelchair, or with other type of limited mobility. And if you aren’t strong enough to climb up a few little steps on the small ladder to get to a top bunk, you should let them know that when you make a reservation. I stayed in the top bunk this time, and it was super easy to get in and out, but I can see how it might be daunting for somebody else."

"My stay was a good one. The family is warm and welcoming yet professional. The house is quite large and my rear of the house room (#5) was spacious, secure and comfortable. I am sensitive to noise and always travel with earplugs; they came in handy as the room is right beside the kitchen. Not terribly noisy, but noticeable to me without earplugs. "Keep in mind this is a simple hostel (with no curfew). Nevertheless, I booked the more expensive private room. All my expectations were met. I had a clean, comfortable room/bed to sleep in. The hostel is along the main road and is near the center of town, but my room was very quiet -- I slept very well. The bathrooms are separate -- the one I used was roomy and the shower was fantastic. "The best deal in town, hands down. The managers are very sweet and caring people. It's a safe hostel and has a decent dining space. It's quiet there at night. They have dorm rooms that are kept clean. The clientele is very mixed; mostly students from Europe and some travelers from across the US"
