Zip-line adventures above waterfalls, hiking trails through mountains and rare bird species draw visitors to this forest region of the northern Drakensberg.

Magoebaskloof is a beautiful region of forests, hills and valleys at the foot of the Drakensberg mountain range. Experience the spectacular scenery with a range of outdoor adventures. Fly over a green gorge on a zip line, hike through the mountains along forested tracks and shower under a waterfall.

There are many nature trails and forested walks throughout the region. Go on the Magoebaskloof Hiking Trail that passes through forests and by mountain streams and waterfalls. Enjoy views of mist covered mountains that have earned Magoebaskloof the nickname of the land of the silver mist. Trek or drive to the Debengeni Falls and swim in its plunge basin. Bird watchers will love this spot for the rare bird species that live here, such as the grey wagtail.

Go on a zip-line adventure above the waterfalls of the Groot Letaba River Gorge. Pause to study the views from the 13 viewing platforms between the cables.

Spend an afternoon in the village of Haenertsburg, situated on the slopes of the Wolkberg and Drakensberg mountains. Browse stores for antiques, books and arts and crafts, visit a pottery studio and appreciate the vistas from the outdoor terrace of a café. The area around the village is popular with cyclists and walkers. Nearby is Ebenezer Dam where you can camp, fish and go boating.

Visit Haenertsburg in spring for the annual festival. There are musical concerts and performances, food stalls, craft stalls and family activities.

Magoebaskloof sits in the middle of an area of dense woodland and mountains. It is approximately 48 miles (77.2 kilometres) to the east of Polokwane, where there is an international airport. Choose from a variety of accommodation types, including chalets, campsites and log cabins.

A rental car is a good option if you want to explore more of the scenic beauty around Magoebaskloof. You could also take a detour to Kruger National Park, which is only two hours away by car.

"Check in was bad and the welcome not good due to us booking on hotels.com and the manager did not know how to claim the free nights I had and booked for it.
