Alfriston is very historic and has been kept so with the avoidance of street lighting, traffic lights, etc. It has about five large pubs and maybe three tearooms plus a handful of other shops. You will definitely need a car.

We both thought that it was very picturesque. There are plenty of places to eat. There is also plenty of shops too. However we found that Alfriston was quite a narrow town and probably should be made one way.
