"The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast in the morning was fabulous. My partner and I really loved the tub. The shower was very nice, good water pressure and never ran out of hot water filling the giant tub and taking hot showers. It was a very unique property which was beautiful to walk around and interact with the dogs and other animals on the property. "

"Third floor walk up room in furthest building from reception and after carrying our luggage up (no elevators) we come to find that our key cards don’t work. Pretty small room. Ok for a quick stay if coming in or out of SJO for the night. This is a 3 star hotel at best. "

"It was a great stay. Property has both shared rooms and private ones. I had a private one with private bathroom. It was simple but very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was included and the owner offers transport for a minimum fee. Will definitely stay again. "

"We liked our stay at this hotel, and like the Japanese restaurant, but here are things that could be better: initially we stayed in a room that was too noisy (facing freeway). Second, we would have liked to have more hand and face towels; there was only one for both my wife and I. The location of the hotel is not that good, in that there is no way to walk to any place, like outside restaurants and shops, so we had to always take taxis. The breakfast buffet was mediocre."

"While the property is in a very convenient location, its convenience comes at the cost of increased noise due to airport runways being across the street. It didn’t bother us during the day, even though the noise is very apparent, but did wake us up at night a few times; thankfully not a ton of traffic in the middle of the night.
Possibly not as obvious if your room was situated on the opposite side. Despite the noise, we would stay here again due to cleanliness and convenience. I might just ask...

"We didn't have time for the breakfast, but the front desk staff was not at all helpful when we asked for a shuttle to the airport late in the evening so we could return our rental car.
There was a giant cockroach in the bathroom, the vanity was falling apart, and there was mold/ dirt on the bathroom ceiling. "

"I’m currently staying at the Hotel Santo Tomas and it’s a total standout. The building was originally built in 1908, and they’ve done an incredible job maintaining that historic character while keeping everything comfortable.
Even though you’re right downtown and close to everything, the property feels like a private oasis. Once you step inside, you completely forget you’re in the middle of a busy city. It’s quiet, incredibly beautiful, and the layout is perfect.
