"Definitely a beautiful location, and we get it’s in the middle of a rainforest so the bugs outside were expected but the amount of bugs we had to clean up after we walked into the door was unreal. Cockroaches, flies, beetles and ants. We had spent nearly $80 at Drunken Cookie in San Juan, the ants were so bad that they got through the packaging of the cookies and we had throw them out. The location was definitely not cleaned prior to our arrival. This description states 35 mins from San Juan, which is deceiving, it’s more like 50 mins and the travel there is not for everyone. Hot water is very limited and I probably should say luke warm water, because it never got hot. No lighting in the pool area, tv did not work but after reaching out they came and dropped a new tv which they did not connect and just sat on the floor, so it was never used.
We had a 4 night stay but checked out early, mainly because we found evidence of a very large snake had been or is in the house as a snake skin was having from the rafters. I would typically avoid reviews like this but expedia asked the owner for a refund for just the one night we did not stay there and they refused, however Expedia did give us credit for the night. Had the owner refunded us for the night we left due to not feeling safe we would have felt as though the owner cared, when we told them, the response was “we’ll call an exterminator, and talk to the cleaning crew” no apology or anything. DONT STAY HERE! "
"Everything was as listed. Our host communicated well and was always available for questions and gave responses quickly. The place was clean and well maintained. The property was quiet, and the people in the area were very friendly. We would definitely recommend!"
"We had a wonderful stay at Serena Boutique Hotel in Aguas Buenas and would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic Puerto Rican experience. From the moment we arrived, Ricardo made us feel incredibly welcome. He was always around the property, working hard to keep everything running smoothly and making sure guests were comfortable. His wife, Gloria, was also wonderful—she prepared fresh breakfast every morning, and it was always delicious.
One of the things we loved most about this place is how tucked away it is. It’s far from the busy city areas, which makes the experience feel unique and authentic. Even the drive there feels like you’re stepping into a different side of Puerto Rico. The property itself is beautiful, and you can really see how much care Ricardo puts into maintaining it.
If I could give one tip to future guests, it would be to rent a car if possible. If you stay out late in San Juan or other areas, it can be very difficult to get a Lyft or Uber to drive up to the property, as many drivers decline the trip. Ricardo is very kind and willing to help, but since it’s a small family running the hotel, we didn’t want to bother him late at night.
The only small thing we noticed was that some of the tiles could be a little slippery, especially since it rained quite a bit during our stay. Other than that, everything was fantastic.
Overall, this was one of the best experiences we’ve had staying anywhere. If you’re looking for a peaceful, authentic"
