8.6 out of 10, Excellent, (14)
"This is a lovely homestay in Berastagi, about a 20 min walk along the main road to reach the town centre with the 'cabbage monument'. Nachelle makes incredible homemade pizzas from scratch - a must (if you like pizza)! There's also a water cooler for you to use and fill up your bottle. It's a bit of a hike if you're staying on the top floor, but they help you with your luggage. Nachelle also gives you a very helpful local map, and can help arrange your ongoing transport (e.g. for me it was a...

Learn more about Berastagi

Climb the twin volcanoes of Sibayak and Sinabung for spectacular sunrise views over the highland town's colourful markets. Farmers bring fresh strawberries and flowers to Berastagi's markets, while nearby Sipiso-piso waterfall offers a refreshing day trip.

This volcano is active with steam vents and hot springs. However, it has not errupted since 1881. You can take a public bus to the bottom of the park and then walk to the peak. The majority of the way up is on a paved road - which totally sucks in my opinion - but then you get to the base camp where the road ends. Continue on the path up to the top and explore away! We spent between 2-3 hours once we reached the top, climbing different areas and so on. The view of Mt. Sinabung is incredible, especially since it was erupting while we were here. You can take a different way down, ending by hot springs in a small town, which is much nicer than the way up.
