We chose carefully before ending up with this resort. It's perfect. Not too big, not too small. Direct access to beach - not private beach, but almost. Not crowded and dirty like many places in north Goa (even Benaulim actually). Direct access to small market and shops outside the resort area as well. Couldn't have been better.
The hotel is nice, but needs some renovation in the rooms. Breakfast was excellent! The front desk costume service could be improved. I had a wonderful massage at the spa!
Overall an excellent stay at the Dona Sylvia resort, nestled in lush gardens with good facilities. Location is excellent with direct access to the beach, and a wide variety of restaurants and beach shacks in the vicinity. The staff delivers attentive service and they were very helpful with additional activities such as arranging a cooking class! The pool and the gardens are very well maintained. The breakfast buffet was good, but there were limited choices for western palates, so having an omlette every morning for a week can get a bit boring. The air conditioning in the room was quite noisy - could do with some maintenance. We also had a problem with the TV which kept switching off, and the WiFi which was excellent in the garden and all other areas but was hardly working inside the room. We escalated these issues to the reception and the staff tried to resolve the issues but unfortunately to no avail. The room was cleaned daily and the towels were changed as well - despite having them hung up as requested if we did not want them to be changed. We would recommend the Dona Sylvia for a relaxing stay in Goa.
We had a great time at the Novotel Goa Dona Sylvia Hotel. Breakfasts were really good - very varied with both continental and Indian choices available. We came during a quiet period so lots of space around the pool which was well maintained. HOWEVER
We arrived around 3am and had booked a family room which was supposed to accommodate 4 people. We were surprised to find only one large bed in the room and no preparations had been made for the family. When we questioned them about the room they advised that the window seat doubled up as a bed! It was certainly not a bed as the cushion was very hard and only a small person could sleep in that corner. I can't believe that we paid extra for a family room only to discover that our room was the same size as all the other ones!
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much for them. They are a credit to the hotel which is why I was shocked to find out that the hotel's treatment of their staff was less that expected. There is a huge array of food available at the buffets throughout the day in the hotel. I asked a member of staff what happened to the food once the service was over and was advised that it is all thrown away and staff are not allowed to eat the leftover food. In this economic crisis, I find it heartbreaking that the hotel would treat their staff this way. They would rather throw away the food than offer it to their hardworking staff who make this hotel what it is today. Shame on them!

Breakfast could have been even better and rest everything is good
I would like to especially commend the Head of Guest Relations Gita Nail for truly saving our stay. While there were several issues initially, she stepped in with exceptional professionalism, empathy, and ownership. She listened patiently, acted swiftly, and genuinely went above and beyond to make things right. Her efforts not only resolved the situation but completely turned around our experience. She single-handedly restored our faith in the hotel and made us feel valued as guests. A true asset to the organization.
