Perched along the Mississippi River, this historic city invites you to ride the Fenelon Place Lift for stunning tri-state views. Explore the National Mississippi River Museum, then stroll the riverwalk where riverboat cruises depart during summer months.
We spent 4 nights in this lovely B&B in late May/Early June on the outskirts of Galena after 5 night in Chicago. It's a increasingly pleasant 3 hour drive West of Chicago on the Iowa/Wisconsin/Illinois borders, very near the Mississippi.
Galena being a lovely relaxing contrast to the city, but with plenty to occupy your time for a short stay. Good base to explore the surrounding countryside in whatever way you prefer - car, cycling, canoeing, walking etc.. several historic buildings to explore...

Great location, beautiful old building with history, rooms with character and lots of space. Gowns provided for spa use. Pool towels provided. Great pool, water was nice and cool and not heavily chlorinated. Hot tub was hot! Bar had a bit of a vibe in it (there were people there!). Friendly bar staff (Chris and Reilly). Lots of free parking out front and behind. Generally a fab place to stay.

I had a most enjoyable stay albeit one night I wish I had stayed longer.
As I was on a budget I had stayed in motels across the Midwest, each one blurring into another. This historic building stood out and I will remember my stay for a long time. The owner/ manager was helpful and entertaining , he also had a good sense of humour, he regaled the guests with a history lesson over an excellent breakfast.
The room was clean and full of character.
The house itself was ideally situated within...

Decent place to stay. Yes it's by a main highway but we didn't experience any noise from it.
The place was clean, easy to get to and from, the free breakfast was sufficient, and parking was plentiful.

We really didn't expect to be told about the theory behind the hotel we thought it was a normal short stay hotel, but it was ok,we got there at 5 30 just as the staff were leaving and locking main door, any later we wouldn't have had anywhere to stay.Anyway got key, staff left strange not having anyone to call on.
